I was so inspired by the looks from last Friday's Fashion Playlist that I decided to make a style board of some of my favorite floral/pastel items from Threads and Shreds, and beyond! What are some of your picks for Spring?

1. Flower Power Blazer - $34.99 (Threads and Shreds)
2. Powder Blue Kitten Heels - $19.99 (Threads and Shreds)
3. Powder Blue Lace Fold-over Purse - $14.99 (Threads and Shreds)
4. Work to the Bow-ne Ring - $11.99 (ModCloth)
5. Printed Lace Floral Tights - $30.00 (Top Shop)
Pastels, florals, and everything spring-like that can drive away the horrible snow outside is everything I need to get my through this terrible time. Just makes me want to dream about picnics in Central Park, strolling along the UWS eating a Shake Shack burger, and taking in some free concerts. But while I wait, here's some light-colored eye-candy to inspire you for when it is actually warm enough to wear such things.

From left to right:

1. Once in a While
2. Petit Cafe
3. One of those days (looking warm while rocking the pastels, love it!)

Love Brigade holds a particular place in my heart because I have watched them from their first season with their medieval-rock inspired clothes to their newest collection full of bright blues and completely wearable designs. True to their haunts in Williamsburg, Brooklyn (and much like us at Threads and Shreds) they find inspiration in music and bring it to the forefront with their fashion. (Special shout out to their Justice is Love Brigade and MJ One Glove tee!) And lucky for me the avid online shopper, Love Brigade recently opened up their own online store! Check them out here. And for the fellas, they've got some cool threads for you too.

There's been a bit of a rumble about H&M and their supposedly not-so-organic line of "organic clothing." Sure, if you care to wear 100% organic, being fooled into thinking partially modified material is the good stuff is a crap move. Then I came across Fashionista's recounting of the story which spilled into a little op-ed piece extolling how very unsustainable "the bigger picture" is. Namely, the fuel used in shipping materials from place to place during production and then during shipment to H&M's worldwide stores. So, the article concludes, "if you’re that committed to wearing sustainable fashion, you should be buying items that are produced locally with locally-grown materials." Even designers are saying you should buy locally.

So what if you don't live in New York City? Or LA?

And what if you're that small business and there's demand outside of the confines of your brick-and-mortar store? Do you just ignore the promise of a bigger customer base and shun those who don't have the money to make the pilgrimage (which btw would also cost "gas guzzling fuel" unless you walked it or had a purely electric car). I mean, shuttling around your goods from boutique to boutique is a smaller-scaled version of what big chains do no?

Point is, "buying locally" is great and all, but to me it's just not realistic unless you live in a big fashion metropolis or there's a fuel-free alternative to shipping.

What do you think? How important is purely sustainable fashion? More importantly, how realistic do you think it is?
Yay for redheads! I just love how it pops against the black, and I take comfort in knowing at least one Asian can pull it off without looking like an anime character (GMH). Of course I picked these not just for the hair, but for the fashion. Nice mixes of feminine dress with blazers and leather, or in one case lace with a bold striped skirt. Oh Lily Allen how I love you. I followed you from your days on Youtube to seeing you play in Coachella 07 when I popped my music festival cherry. But I wish you would take off the cougar lingerie and put on some proper clothes (and pants). I'll even give up my "leggings are NOT pants" rule for you.

Add a little bling to your life and hit this awesome purse. 20% off this item to the lucky person who snags this and enters code "BlingBling" in message to sellers. Just send your order and wait while we cook up your brand spanking new invoice with the deduction.

As an avid shopper and an obsessive virtual window shopper, it is surprising that I am rather confined to designers on this side of the globe. Call it an irrational fear of pining for something so distant and inaccessible. But when I stumbled upon Barcelona-born Gemma Degara, I couldn't help but start a long-distance romance. Beautiful and infinitely wearable, her clothes exude an effortless cool. Nature prints + lovely draping = I'm sold. And lucky for me, she sell's on Etsy! Check out her past and present collections here.
As much as we love high-end fashion, sometimes (really most of the time) we just can't afford it. Lemme here a "hell yeah college loans!" We gals at Threads and Shreds know it's tough, and we also believe you don't always have to spend big bucks to looks like your chic-self. In fact affordability has always been something we keep in mind when we run our own shop! So here we are bringing you some awesome finds, all under $30. Keep checking back for different themes for less!

Ba-da-da-da-daaaa, I'm lovin' it. Not so much the Big Macs, but the fierce heels and slouchy look. Comfort and style to make yourself look effortlessly chic. Try mixing in a slouchy top here or a slouchy dress there. Lazy? I beg to differ. Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Forever in Love

Gotta love that sassy chic that is Alice + Olivia's fall collection. Over-sized knitwear, rocker bows, and androgynous goodness. I'm loving the grey/black tiered dress with the large bow (second from right) and using elements of the 80s in a fashion-forward way. Definitely going to have to save up and splurge on some of these items (because college loans can stretch just a liiiiiiiitle bit farther right? right?). If you're looking to get inspired, try mixing up some of these classic elements in your wardrobe, vintage style. Like this bow dress, or ruffled blouse.

TGIF people, lets get the weekend started off right. This week I was really feeling the military look (not unlike the BB Dakota Battalion Jacket that keeps popping up), dark bold statements, and rosy-cheeked, floral/blazer combos. Pretty much culminates into The Libertines, KaiserCartel, Arctic Monkeys, Calvin Harris, and Lauryn Hill for me. Check out the tunes by clicking play below while laying into some end-of-the-week fashion eye candy.

Floral prints, zippers, plaid, blazers galore! Charlotte Ronson proves once again that designers can produce very, very wearable pieces. Gotta love the simple pieces with a little extra side of BAMF (that's Bad Ass Motha F*cker). I can see myself rocking that purple zippered shoulder cut-off dress to an after party, or taking the detailed jet black blazer out on the town. Lastly, if there is one moral to be had, it's that you can make your outfit pop without the nu rave colors or pants pre-ripped to within an inch of their life. Yeah, I went there. Here's some items for inspiration: Uno, Dos, Tres!
